From Research to Industrial Application
Europe is moving towards a more sustainable, flexible and a less externally-dependent energy system. Below you will find a directory of organisations dedicated to the development and transfer of technologies related to biofuels, biomass valorisation and energy system flexibility.
The TTO Circle and EARTO are networks containing a comprehensive list of member and collaborating organisations dedicated to a broad range of research, technological development and technology transfer. The other sources are organisations with specialised departments in the areas of biofuels, biomass and energy systems.
If your organisation conducts research and technological development in these specific areas then please contact us to request to be included in the directory.
With cutting-edge research from basic principles to application across all disciplines, Helmholtz is creating the scientific conditions for a climate-neutral energy supply that is economically and socially viable. Helmholtz explores ways of enhancing resource and energy efficiency and develop new technologies and concepts for energy-intensive processes, for utilizing primary and secondary raw materials.

The Danish Technological Institute focuses on the Biobased Society. One of the biggest challenges in the years to come will be transition from a society based on fossil raw materials to a society based on renewable bio resources. Their special areas of focus include biomass pretreatment and testing, biomass processing technology, production of biomass products, biomass boilers and stoves and smart energy systems.

CIRCE are experts in studying new logistics chains that give rise to new biomass-based business lines, which includes considering the potential of the materials and waste available, how to process and adapt them, and all of the logistics required for distribution and marketing. One of the most significant tasks in this field is helping agro-industries to adapt their activity and start producing biomass to become a more diversified business, putting waste to good use and securing jobs. They also specialize in analysing biomass combustion systems, validating the characteristics of a given type of biomass or combustion system and develop the most suitable improvements. They have technical expertise in designing solid biofuel boilers and pretreatment of biomass and waste.
